Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden spoke at a political rally this evening at Alico Arena. The rally is part of Biden’s swing through Southwest Florida and comes two days after Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican pick for vice president, fired up a crowd of close to 9,000 people at Germain Arena. Biden also attended a Naples fundraiser hosted by developer Jack Antaramian this afternoon. The Daily News followed his visit -- and reported on this blog.

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin accused Barack Obama of voting against funding for U.S. troops in combat Thursday night in their much-anticipated campaign debate and chastised his Democratic running mate, Joe Biden, for defending the move, "especially with your son in the National Guard" and headed for Iraq.

Bush pushes bailout plan as politicians scramble today to pick up pieces

President George W. Bush says the economic damage to the U.S. will be "painful and lasting" if Congress fails to pass a $700 billion bailout bill. Bush said Tuesday that "Congress must act" and said the economy is depending on "decisive action on the part of our government." He spoke a day after the House voted narrowly to defeat the massive relief measure that his administration and leading members of Congress had agreed was necessary.

Bill Hoffman and his wife, Fil took a piece of white paper with the location of their friend’s name and made a rubbing on the 8-foot high and 240-foot-long Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall replica. The North Naples couple located the name of their New York neighbor, James Harrington Jr., who served in the Army. They also snapped a picture of his name.
