Marco Island Fire Rescue Department visits the YMCA preschool classes Friday as part of Fire Prevention Week. About 50 children, ages 2 through 5, received fire hats, toured the fire truck and learned firefighters are their friends. They also practiced the stop, drop and roll routine.

Mother Perry Funeral

The funeral for Mother Perry was held Saturday at New Hope Ministries in East Naples. Mother Perry, a matriarch and revered leader in the community died October 6 at the age of 98. More than 500 people attended her funeral that lasted 3 1/2 hours.

Cheyenne Bechtol is becoming a first class barrel racer. Her big sister, champion barrel racer Brooke Miller died from injuries sustained in a car accident four and a half years ago. Cheyenne now rides Brooke's horse "Red Dawn" with great pride and in memory of a sister who taught her many things about riding and about life.

Schools that Rock Dance Celebration

For the past two weeks Molly Cook has taught about 300 students at the school how to dance Merengue, Salsa, Cha-Cha, Swing and Waltz which culminated Friday with a presentation of the dances to guests and parents in the cafeteria. Estero Shelter Last Day

The Red Cross officially closed it's shelter operations at 1pm in the Estero Community Center with the last family leaving earlier in the morning. Operations refocused on cleanup and packing up of essential supplies in preparation for the next possible disaster event
