A Naples Park man is facing a felony charge after Collier County Sheriff's deputies say he stole a stop sign following an accident in Naples Park on Sunday.

Rayburn Lee Wilkerson, 54, of 833 95th Ave. N. was charged with grand theft of a stop sign.

Arrest reports say deputies received information that Wilkerson was dragging a stop sign from 95th Avenue North and Eighth Street into his driveway shortly after 1 p.m.

Deputies say Wilkerson told them he collided with the stop sign, knocking it over, to avoid being struck by another vehicle that ran the sign, reports said. He said he was going to keep it for a lawsuit or a souvenir, reports said.

I just imagine all the other souvenirs in his garage that he hit. Raccoons, possum, maybe a coyote or the token pedestrian. LOL

Love it Typeone...I bet Bill Engvall would love it too.
As for the rocket scientist in the article...Don't you think it would have been better to call the cops, make a report, (remember, leave your car where it is and stay with it, but out of harm's way whenever you are in a traffic crash), and take photos? Then maybe even your insurance company would believe this one. I wonder if he got a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage?

Typeone: Stop it!

What a boneheaded thing to do. Some other person could have been injured or killed with this sign removed. At least most people slow down slightly before driving through an intersection with a stop sign.

LS any signs of Rocky at all today? Hey, check your email. I will likely wait until after Wednesday night to make my complete decision and will probably post it. My wife made up her mind for sure.
