NAPLES Lake Park Elementary School will host its first Family Reading Night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21. Families are invited to spend quality time reading together in the school's media center, 1295 14th Ave. N.
While the focus of the evening is for families to share in the reading experience, additional incentives and surprises are in store. Students taking accelerated reading tests on the books they read will earn double points. Jill Jana Marie, a local teacher and published author, will sign copies of her first children's book, "Zoo Rendezvous." ten percent of the sales from her book will be donated to a hearing-impaired student at Highlands Elementary School in Immokalee.

Nice story. Nothing beats reading with our children so they can learn the essentials of our written language. I often wonder if there is a similar program for the Naples Daily News writers.
