Hamilton Harbor will have live music

The question remains whether it will be outdoors too

— Music is coming to Hamilton Harbor but don’t make plans to dance by the water anytime soon.

A Naples advisory board voted to allow live entertainment at the Hamilton Harbor clubhouse, but did not have the opportunity to decide whether to allow live entertainment outdoors. Representatives for the private yacht club said Wednesday they wanted to continue the request for live entertainment to a later date, so that neighbors could be better informed of the request.

While the decision to allow live entertainment was unanimous, planning board member Dorothy Hirsch said she was concerned about the effect music would have on the neighbors.

“I would have a hard time to allow music or any other noise to intrude of that environment,” Hirsch said. “We keep intruding and intruding ... that’s a major concern for me.”

Under the approved plan the club can have a maximum of five amplified performers inside from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The plan, according to a letter to the board from the club’s attorney John Passidomo, would also allow for a disc jockey from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

“It’s the kind of service that we reasonably anticipate all of our members will enjoy,” Passidomo told the board.

In addition to the weekly indoor live entertainment permit, the planning board also voted to allow indoor and outdoor live entertainment on Nov. 8, for the club’s grand opening. The entertainment would begin at 1 p.m. and end at 6 p.m., Passidomo said in his letter.

This event, Passidomo told the board, could serve as a barometer to gauge how neighbors react to the outdoor entertainment.

The closest residence is about 300 feet away from the club, according to a power point presentation, while the closest Port Royal home is about 1,400 feet away across the water.

Live entertainment requests generally do not go before the planning board, but because Hamilton Harbor’s planned development was approved prior to a code change the organization needs to get approval from the planning board before going to Naples City Council.

The issue will still need to go before council for final approval, said city planner Mireidy Fernandez. The request is scheduled to be discussed during the Nov. 5 meeting, she said.

"The closest residence is about 300 feet away from the club, according to a power point presentation . . ."

PowerPoint is the trademarked name of presentation software licensed by Microsoft. It is not a generic term, and it sure as shootin' isn't a qualified or reliable source, as the structure of this sentence would suggest.

Lame, NDN. Just lame. Whose PowerPoint presentation was it?

Hamilton Harbor hasn't been concerned with their impact on the neighborhood up to this point why start now? They built a building that looks like a prison right in the middle of a residential area, a little noise pollution will just be icing on the cake.

They'll be offering social memberships if they aren't already within months for $2,000.00...or free for the 1st year to "quality" people...just like Bay Resort...sign of the times...

If you live anywhere in the city and still expect peace and quiet all the time, you either need to lower your expectations or move to The Estates. It's called "the city" for a reason.

still trying to find where the words "qualified or reliable source" are in the article. It mentions using powerpoint, but does not reference it as a qualified source...

Re: Post #5 - That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that people who live in the Ye Olde Naples have mugh too high an expectation of what "peace and quiet" can actually be in a city, particularly during tourist season.

For example, I travel for work and am currently renting a house in The Keys and a house in Miami, depending on which project site I happen to be needed at. The "city noise" in Marathon is considerably different than the "city noise" in Miami. You just have to set your level of expectation realistically. Anyone who expects Miami to be as quiet as Marathon has an unrealistic level of expectation.

Similarly, anyone who lives in proximity to a large development or entertainment establishment in the city who expects to never be disturbed by ambient noise is in for a huge disappointment and considerable aggravation. It's "the city", and there is a certain amount of noise that is inherent in that situation. It's unavoidable.
